they only had one child: John.
Rev John Lovell Robinson-[2](1865-1939)
This is the man whom we are most interested in as he was the driving force
behind the building of our church.
He was born on 20 Nov 1865 in Weston Colville, Cambridgeshire and died on
11 Feb 1939 in Downton, Wiltshire, at age 73 after a long and productive life.
He was buried on 15 Feb 1939 and rests in the grounds of the church where he
served for the last 16 years, in Downton, Wiltshire.
Admitted to Trinity School, Matric, Michs on 23 May 1884. He achieved his BA in
1887 and his MA in 1891. He was ordained in 1888, at Rochester. and assigned as
Curate at St Stephens, Walworth, Surrey from 1888 to 1894. . Sadly, the
Diocese of Southwark website lists St Stephens as a "Lost Parish". It is
possible that there is more to learn of this part of his life but that is a
different exercise to the one in hand.
He was transferred in 1899 to St Marys, Summerstown, Surrey and served there
until 1923. On arrival at St Marys, he was presented with a temporary structure
for a church and an established set of school rooms and a church hall. With a
parish already too large for the facilities to hand and growing in size he was
presented with the task of designing, financing and building a new church,
one likely to stand the test of time and a significantly expanded parish.
Then on to Downton, Wiltshire where he served until his death in
1939.
John married Minnie Harriett-[3] [MRIN:2] on 23 Sep 1899. They had three
children: Margaret and the twins John and Innes.
Margaret Robinson-[4]
was born about 1900 in The Vicarage, Summerstown, Surrey and died on 2 Feb 1976 in Downton, Wiltshire, about age 76.
Margaret married Sir Geoffrey Charles Frescheville Ramsden KBE-[7] [MRIN:3], son of Herbert Frescheville Smyth Ramsden CBE-[8] and Unknown, on 25 Oct 1930 in St Lawrences Church, Downton.
Noted events in his life were:
